We begin our tour in Segnas above the village. It is not uncommon to encounter skiers at the beginning of the trail because the Val Segnas is a popular downhill slope. But then we are on our own, gradually climbing a snow-covered forest road up to the mountain pasture huts of Run Cunel. A look down into the valley tells us that we've already covered some ground up the mountain. But we still have the most gruelling part in front of us. We follow a hiking trail up to the Barschaus mountain pasture hut, a good opportunity to take a break before we tackle the final part. Once we leave the forest, we can already see our destination and are happy that someone has already cleared a path for us. At the top, we are greeted by a fantastic panorama and it is fascinating to see how the free riders from the ski resort leave their tracks in the slopes of the Val Segnas.

But for our descent we choose the safe and comfortable option along our ascent route.

Author’s recommendation

We can also go down to Run Cunel via the Prau Sura to Mompe Tujetsch and cover the last part of the trail to Segnas along a winter hiking trail.

Safety information

There is generally no risk of avalanches on the tour. After heavy snowfall, however, we recommend reading the avalanche bulletin and never leaving the designated route. The route is marked, but people who are not familiar with the area should print out the topographical map of the tour and take it along.
